Asia bulletin: Australian gambling law firm Senet onboards Bree Ryan

Ryan joins other colleagues from Tabcorp who have moved to Senet, as well as Senet Principals Julian Hoskins and Daniel Lovecek – as well as Senior Associate Caitlin McCombe.  

Ryan comes from a background in wagering, with experience at Sportsbet and the law firm Minter Ellison, as well as Tabcorp. 

Senet Principal Julian Hoskins said: “Our gambling law and compliance advisory practice is one of the largest and most experienced in Australia.  

“Brees’ expertise will complement the team and provide increased capabilities to support our clients with their gambling law and regulation-related matters.  

“Bree also brings a strong network of connections with domestic and international operators active in the Australian market.” 

Ryan has represented Australian and international clients across a range of regulatory and legal matters, with specialisation in wagering,one black jack racing and media. 

Some of her other experience includes being the principal legal advisor on strategic matters including the integration of two ASX-listed entities, regulatory investigations, compliance reform initiatives and responsible gambling compliance remediation. 

Ryan has also received recognition from the Australasian Lawyer as an In-house Counsel Leader of 2020. 

In other news coming out of Australia, The Star announced it is anticipating a non-cash impairment charge about its NSW business in the range of AU$400m to AU$1.6bn in its 1H FY23 results. 

This came after it reported a 1% decline in group revenue on pre-Covid levels for 1H FY23.
